Happy Armistice Day!

Happy Armistice Day!

I wholeheartedly join in the commemoration of U.S. Veterans today. Having volunteered at a Veterans Home of California and trained staffs at VA hospitals in L.A., Palo Alto, and Fresno, I appreciate what this day means to Vets.

Every year at this time, I also take the opportunity to ask myself an important question—why today?

Lost in all of the noise during the rest of the year about protecting this group, and moving these troops, and pulling out those troops, sometimes I forget the true of meaning of today at this moment: “The eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month.”

Today is not a celebration of victorious battles. It is a celebration of an END to them.

Thus, how do we honor the message that signaled the glorious end of WWI, “The War to End All Wars”? I will honor it by listening to what our vets are telling us today (a message I have heard numerous times face-to-face).

Do you recall the Pew Poll of 1,284 U.S. military veterans taken last spring? The results were published in July by the U.S. Military:

Please Support Vets by Listening to Them

Peace
