My Veterans’ Day Wish List
• That Veterans get everything they need without regard to cost.
• That all budgetary requirements for Veterans and their care is allocated before a single dollar is spent on the next overseas military adventure.
• That the total number of U.S. citizens (140,000 in 2014) who volunteered to assist our Veterans this year increase in 2015. (We are a nation of 317 million people; we can do better.)
• That adults who have children take their kids to visit Vets in V.A. hospitals, nursing homes, and community living facilities.
• That those visits are made in the spirit of compassion, first and foremost; but also as a visual lesson to children (and their parents) about the importance of not mistaking the sanitized “war” they see on TV for the real thing.
• That we remind ourselves that for every ten homeless persons we see on any street, at least one of them is likely a Veteran.
• That we treat Veterans with the same degree of enthusiasm we offer new recruits.
• That before one more young boy or girl is persuaded to join the military, we fully assist the ones that have already performed their service—our Veterans.
